Cemex, S.A.B. de C.V. celebrated the inauguration of the Panama Canal expansion last month along with other suppliers and local dignitaries. The company supplied close to 1 million tons of specially developed cement for the expansion – considered the most important infrastructure project in the last 100 years.

To provide a steady delivery of material for the construction of the third set of canal locks, Cemex invested more than $300 million to triple its production capacity in Panama, and dedicated a production line exclusively for the project. Using durable and low heat hydration properties, Cemex Panama and Switzerland-based Cemex Research Group AG designed the innovative cement to enable fast construction by facilitating massive pouring. The cement is also highly resistant to chemical sulfates that attack submarine structures.
